Even though I’m home all day with my beautiful active daughter, there are days when we’re bored. She’s also at an age where she can actually enjoy certain activities. Some we do outside, others we do inside. The materials for the activities we do are easy to find and can be bought at various stores such as Target, the grocery store or even Amazon. You can even get them at the Dollar Store!
Some of these you already know, but I wanted to share what my Pituchi does on a typical day throughout the week. You’d be amazed at how a few things popped in my head while we were browsing aisles at the store (I told you we can get bored).
Reading (she does this 75% of the day, it really is her favorite activity)
We watch movies…and yes the whole movie. It’s a lifesaver when you want to clean the house or get some cooking done!
Blowing bubbles! Very inexpensive and you’d be amazed how entertained it will keep them…
Coloring with washable crayons or Crayola wonder markers (where the color only shows on certain paper, super lifesaver when you’re teaching them not to draw on anything else!). It’s usually a quiet time and sometimes I put music in the background)
As she became older, she started painting on her easel…with washable paint of course.
Playing with Play-doh. Sometimes I make my own edible play-doh…
Pretend Play: This one varies between having a picnic…
Or “fixing” things with her tools. I couldn’t resist getting her a pink one! She loves using her tools with her father so much, I’ve already looked into toy drills…yes, apparently they do exist.
Making Music. She looooooves the xylophone! And this particular one was the best bang for my buck- thank you Amazon.
Sensory Bins (this varies, here’s an example)
Sidewalk chalk, also another inexpensive activity!
Or go to the playground and end up using chalk there!
Even the simplest of toys, makes her happy.
Just recently, she’s been practicing writing her letters, which you don’t have to wait for preschool to do. This kept her entertained for awhile!
Next learning activity is using scissors….this shall be interesting.
So you see, the possibilities are endless. It helps there are designated areas around our home just for her that we created. Even if she happens to be bored or restless for a moment, I remind her of the endless options we have and her eyes light up again…
And just like that, her curiosity and imagination is running wild one more time.
In the end, that’s all that matters to me.
