Things have been pretty hectic around here lately which means the hubby and I haven’t had a chance to truly reconnect. We are like every other couple and watch movies in bed and consider that a “date night”, but sometimes it’s nice to switch things up a bit.
We are big board game fans (in case you didn’t notice already with Battleship) and Scrabble is one of those inexpensive board games that be found just about anywhere AND can be taken anywhere. The travel version has been with us on planes and even the beach.
Don’t be intimidated by playing this game! It helps pick your brain and can be tons of fun if you apply a theme. Choosing a theme means you only put down words that refer ONLY to that theme. The sky’s the limit!
To give you a head start:
You get the idea.
I wanted our Scrabble date night to be very low key. I didn’t want to cook because I didn’t want either one of us to clean up the kitchen, but rather just prepare our favorite sandwiches. Plus, it’s a play on words for a date night invite.
Yes, a date night invite is a must. It makes it more special. Aaaaaand I’m sharing it so you can use it, too! It was a little time consuming, but I think the end result looks super cute. Print it out and sign it with your name, then leave it out with the board game for your loved one to find in the morning.
Once our daughter was tucked into bed, we lit some candles, put on Pandora (free music) on our phone, opened the board game and chowed down on our sandwiches. You can take this a step further and open a bottle of wine or even buy an already made dessert from the store.
Or…buy some sodas, chips and cookies and keep the picnic theme!
This is the BEST sandwich and it’s so simple. It’s a bit of a splurge, but hey…you are staying home soooo technically you’re saving a lot of money…
- 1 medium baguette
- 1/4lb thinly sliced prosciutto
- 4 tablespoons of apricot jam
- 1/4lb of sliced manchego cheese
- 1/2 cup of arugula
- Slice the baguette down the middle. Then slice the baguette vertically into individual sandwiches. Spread the apricot jam on both halves of the baguette.
- Layer the manchego cheese on the bottom half of the baguette, then the prosciutto and arugula.
- Add the top half of the baguette and serve!
But tonight we’re enjoying them while playing scrabble!
Hope you enjoy this no fuss date night. I know we will 🙂
