No I don’t mean let’s eat an endless supply of chocolate. While I do love chocolate I don’t want to spend my date night hugging a toilet.
However, this particular sentence was said in one of our favorite summer movies, ‘Grown Ups’ and is the highlight of our date night theme. It stars Adam Sandler and Kevin James (to name a few) and it’s a hilarious movie about family bonding.
In one particular scene, they all went to this restaurant where apparently all the fathers used to get ‘wasted’ and when one of their kids overheard the word, they asked what it was. So instead of informing them it means an enormous amount of alcohol consumption, Adam Sandler decides to go with an enormous amount of ICE CREAM consumption. All the kids erupted with excitement and say they want to get wasted and Adam Sandler’s daughter says, ‘I want to get chocolate wasted!’
You have to see the movie to understand.
Anyways, now that we’re parents that line has double meaning for me because I’m always wondering what I would say to my daughter if she asked me something I didn’t want to answer…to be determined.
This is what my husband saw when he came home from work. I thought it was cute play on words 🙂
So to honor the ‘chocolate wasted’ line, I decided it would be fun to do a twist on the typical ice cream dessert. For our date night, I made chocolate chip cookie and Baileys (Irish cream liqueur) milkshakes. This was SO good, I thought my husband was going to inhale mine as well.
This makes plenty for two people.
P.S. Grown Ups 2 recently came out (not really but I’m running on a I’m-a-parent-so-I-don’t-get-out-much schedule) so it will definitely be a future date night!
Chocolate Chip and Baileys Milkshakes
1 cup of whole milk
1 pint of good vanilla ice cream (I used Haagen Daz)
10 chocolate chip cookies (I used chips ahoy)
1-2 travel size bottle of Baileys liqueur
Homemade whipped cream
1/2 cup of heavy cream
1 tablespoon of confectionar sugar
To make the whipping cream, grab an electric hand mixer and whip the cream until soft peaks form. Add the sugar and whip until the cream becomes soft peaks.
As for the shakes it couldn’t be more simple: put everything in a blender and blend it all really well. It’s ok if there’s still pieces of chocolate chip cookies, that’s the best part.
Pour the shake into two tall glasses and place a dollop of homemade whipped cream on top. Placing a chocolate chip cookie on top is optional but highly recommended.
